FIRE ROUTINE & SAFETY SIGNS

Up until recently the U K and its European partners had major problems in the area of fire routine & safety signs. These problems where mainly due to the fact that there were no uniformed design or code of signage throughout Europe, i.e. each country used its own preferred style of sign.

However The European Directive introduced new legislation in order to standardize safety signs throughout Europe. This legislation meant that not only should signs contain text, they should also now contain the appropriate symbol.

This legislation came into force as part of The Health & Safety Signs & Regulations Act 1996 and it required all employers to comply by December 1998.

As an employer what should I do next ?

Employers should firstly ensure that their premises complies with the new safety signs legislation, employers are also obligated to ensure that the workforce and personnel are aware of all safety signage within the workplace. Finally employers should ensure that they have the correct safety & routine signs in the workplace.

If you are still unsure whether your workplace is in compliance or not, contact our qualified team of advisors on our contact us page, they will provide sound technical advise and help in order for you to meet all required legislation.
